ARTIST STATEMENT

Ry Flora, born Ryan Dowling, is an independent dance music producer and visual designer based in Saratoga Springs, NY. His musical journey began at the age of 14 when he started tinkering with GarageBand on a rented laptop. Captivated by the process, Ry consistently uploaded instrumental tracks to his Soundcloud account. With only two years of experience, he found himself producing songs behind the scenes for the American pop-rock band Emblem3 and its members.

Seeking to cultivate his vision, Ry returned to releasing original music, this time on major streaming platforms, with a more refined and professional sound. In 2019, he collaborated with singer-songwriter han.irl <3 to write, produce, and release his debut EP,

“Feel Something Again.” The five-song EP became Ry’s breakout project, with tracks like “Fake It,” “Back2California,” and “Too Weak” gaining substantial editorial attention from Spotify. Despite being a fully independent artist, Ry’s songs earned placements in some of the world’s most popular and competitive editorial playlists, including New Music Friday, Pop Right Now, and Brand New Chill. Since his debut project, Ry has released 25 more songs, has secured placement on 30 Spotify editorial playlists, and has amassed more than 3 million Spotify streams shared between 1 million individual listeners.

Following the success of his debut EP, Ry was selected and hired by Atlantic Records to produce an official remix of “I Lost Myself” by Munn, a song that has now amassed 26 million Spotify streams.

In 2021 and 2022, Ry took a step back from consistently releasing collaborative music to rediscover his artistic individuality. Seeking greater creative autonomy, he delved into the intricacies of the visual design process at Skidmore College, where we will graduate this May with a B.S. in Management & Business and Communication Design. Despite not having released solo music since his SoundCloud days, Ry wrote and produced a 4-song solo EP titled “Florescence,” which was fully released in 2022. This project served as a breath of fresh air, allowing Ry to fully express himself as a solo artist and now as a visual designer.

In 2023, Ry announced that he was working on his debut album titled “Radiant Living,” the most refined and authentic artistic representation that he could offer the world. The 7-song project is expected to be released in May 2024, delivering a mixture of collaborative and solo work. Notably, one piece will feature an official collaboration with Ram Dass, an American psychologist, and spiritual pioneer.
